Arlen López (* 21st February 1993 ) is a Cuban boxer , world champion and Olympic champion in the middleweight (-75 kg).

Career

In 2009 he won the Junior World Championships in Armenia and in 2014 he won the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico .

In July 2015, he won the gold medal at the American Games in Canada . He had prevailed against Jason Ramirez, Endri Saavedra and Jorge Vivas . He also won the American Championships in Venezuela in August 2015 with victories against Anthony Campbell, Misael Rodríguez and Marlon Delgado.

In October 2015 he won the World Championships in Doha . He defeated it Aljaž Venko, Marlon Delgado, Hosam Abdin and Bektemir Meliqoʻziyev .

The 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil , he could also end up with the gold medal, after he Zoltán Harcsa (TKO), Christian Assomo (3: 0), Kamran Şahsuvarlı (3: 0) and Bektemir Meliqo'ziyev had struck: (0 3).

He also won the gold medal at the Pan American Championships in 2017 . He was qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

In 2019 he won the American Games in Peru.

World Series of Boxing

After López had won the Cuban championships in 2014, he also started for the Cuba Domadores in the World Series of Boxing . He was used in the semi-finals of the playoffs against the Russian Boxing Team, but lost his fight against Artyom Chebotaryov (3-0). The Cuba Domadores still reached the final, in which López beat the representative of the Azerbaijan Baku Fires and thus had a large share in his team's championship win.

In the 2015 season, López was used in all seven bouts in the regular season and won six. He finished second in the ranking of his weight class this season behind Pyotr Chamukov and thus qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games . López was also used again in the semifinals and in the final of the playoffs. If he was able to beat the representative of the Mexico Guerreros in the semifinals, he lost his fight in the final against the Astana Arlans and his team could not defend their title either.
