Andrei Nikolajewitsch Gogolew ( Russian Андрей Николаевич Гоголев ; born May 17, 1974 in Semjonow ) is a former Russian boxer. He won the welterweight gold medal at the 1995 Summer Military World Games in Rome and the middleweight gold medal at the 2001 Elite World Championships in Belfast .

Career

He was among other things Russian welterweight champion in 1996 and Russian light middleweight champion in 1998, where he defeated Gaidarbek Gaidarbekow in the final. 2000, 2001 and 2002 he was each Russian middleweight runner-up, 2001 and 2002 after defeats in the final against Gaidarbek Gaidarbekow . At the championships he also managed a victory against Denis Inkin .

His first international success was a bronze flyweight medal at the 1992 European Junior Championships in Scotland. In the semifinals he was just eliminated from the German starter Frank Brennführer 7: 8 on points.

In September 1995, he won the Welterweight World Games in Rome and defeated the Thai Komgrit Nanakon (14:11), the French Hussein Bayram (knockout) and the Irish William Egan (7: 5) on the way to the title ).

In June 2001 he took part in the middleweight division at the World Championships in Belfast and also won the world title here, after winning Thierry Karl from France (tKo), Abdelghani Kinzi from Algeria (33:14), Donald Orr from Canada (tKo), Carl Froch from England (28:16) and Oʻtkirbek Haydarov from Uzbekistan (36:29).

Further successes of his amateur career were the 5th place at the 1997 World Championships in Budapest (defeat against the eventual world champion Alfredo Duvergel ) and the 1998 European Championships in Minsk .

In 2006 he played two professional fights in Russia in the light heavyweight division, which he was able to win on points.
