The I. summer Military World Games (officially 1st CISM Military World Games ) were from 4 to 16 September 1995 Rome , Italy instead. The Games were played by the World Military Sports Association ( Conseil International du Sport Militaire ) based on the model of the Summer Olympics .

There were competitions in the disciplines of athletics , basketball , fencing , boxing , judo , wrestling , swimming ( swimming , water polo , diving , lifeguarding ), horse riding , triathlon , sport shooting , cycling , volleyball , soccer , parachuting and modern pentathlon , military pentathlon and maritime pentathlon .

For participants included the long distance runner Paul Tergat and Joseph Keter , the walkers Michele Didoni and Robert Korzeniowski , high jumper Tatyana Babashkina , pole vaulter Jean Galfione , javelin thrower konstadinos gatsioudis , shot putter Aleksandr Bagach , more fighters Gianluca Tiberti , Thomas Hellriegel and Dmitriy Gaag , Ringer Mehmet Akif Pirim , judoka Rafał Kubacki , boxers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko and Wladimir Sidorenko , fencer Stanislav Pozdnyakov , Pavel Kolobkov and Francesca Bortolozzi , swimmer Vladimir Selkow , Nina Schiwanewskaja , Jani Sievinen and Antti Kasvio , basketball player Sergei Karasev and footballer Vikash Dhorasoo , Alessandro del Piero and Márcio Amoroso , among others.
The Russian swimmer Denis Pankratow was chosen as the best athlete of the games .

The opening ceremony was broadcast live on Rai 3 . The press center was located at the Foro Italico . The infrastructure facilities that were set up for the 1994 World Swimming Championships were used. A total of 20 hours and 25 minutes of the competitions were broadcast on television. The organizers registered over 8.5 million viewers.
