Sergei Wassiljewitsch Karassjow ( Russian Сергей Васильевич Карасёв ; English transcription: Sergey Karasev ; born October 26, 1993 in Saint Petersburg , Russia ) is a Russian basketball player . After starting his career in his home country with Triumph Lyuberzy with his father Vasily Karasjow , who himself became vice world champion as a coach, he played in the highest endowed professional league NBA from 2013 to 2016 . Since the 2016/17 season he has been back in Russia for BK Zenit Saint Petersburg .

Club career

Since his youth Karasjow played for Triumph from Lyubertsy and was coached by his father, among others. As a 17-year-old Karassjow took part in the 2011 U-19 World Cup in Riga and came third with Russia. In the same year he played his first games in the PBL for Triumph and was chosen as the MVP of the 25th match day of the 2010/11 season. The next year he reached the quarterfinals of the Baltic Basketball League and third place in the FIBA EuroChallenge 2012 with triumph, in which his father had meanwhile been promoted to head coach of the professional team . After the end of the 2011/12 season he was in the PBL Second team elected. He stayed at Triumph for another season and was named the best young player in the VTB United League 2012/13 . He attended the Nike Hoop Summit 2013 and signed up for the 2013 NBA Draft.

In the 2013 NBA draft , Karassjow was selected 19th by the Cleveland Cavaliers . In his debut season in the NBA, he had certain teething problems and was handed over several times to the “ farm teamCanton Charge in the NBA Development League (D-League). After the end of the season he came to the Brooklyn Nets in a player swap. Under Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov, they had already signed his compatriot Andrei Kirilenko , who was experienced in the NBA, a year earlier, but had a dispute with novice coach Jason Kidd , who switched to the Milwaukee Bucks , over, among other things, personnel policy.

In the summer of 2016 he moved back to Russia, to BK Zenit Saint Petersburg .

National team

After Karassjow made his debut for the Russian national team at the qualifying tournament for the 2012 Olympic Games in Venezuela in July 2012, he was also a member of the team at the Olympic Games in London that won the third place match and the bronze medal against Argentina.
