Jean Galfione
Jean Galfione (born June 9, 1971 in Paris ) is a former French pole vaulter .
He was Olympic champion in pole vault at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . A year earlier he won bronze at the world championships . Galfione also won bronze at the European Championships in 1994 and 1998 and at the World Indoor Championships in 1993 .
Besides winning the Olympics in 1996, 1999 was his best year. Galfione became indoor world champion by jumping 6.00 meters. In 1999 he was also able to set a French record outdoors with 5.98. At the outdoor world championships in the same year, however, he made a salto nullo .
His uncle Jean-Claude Magnan was Olympic champion in foil fencing with the team in 1968 and his cousin Clothilde Magnan was an Olympic fencer.
