Tadeusz Ślusarski
Tadeusz Ślusarski (born May 19, 1950 in Żary , Poland ; † August 17, 1998 near Ostromice north of Przybiernów , West Pomerania ) was a Polish athlete .
Together with his compatriot Władysław Kozakiewicz, Ślusarski was the outstanding pole vaulter of the 1970s and early 1980s. At the 1976 Olympics in Montréal , he won the gold medal. Kozakiewicz was rated higher as a silver medalist at the previous European Championships, but an injury meant that he was only eleventh. In 1980 there was a legendary three-way duel between Ślusarski, Kozakiewicz and the Soviet athlete Konstantin Wolkow at the Olympic Games in Moscow . Ślusarski and Wolkow won the silver medal, Kozakiewicz became Olympic champion.
In the summer of 1998, Tadeusz Ślusarski and his friend and Olympic champion in shot put , Władysław Komar , died in a car accident on their return from an athletics meeting in Poland.
