Wladyslaw Komar
Władysław Komar (born April 11, 1940 in Kaunas , † August 17, 1998 near Ostromice north of Przybiernów , West Pomerania ) was a Polish athlete. After his sporting career, he worked as an actor.
After his Olympic victory in the shot put at the 1972 Games in Munich, Komar was one of the most popular athletes in Poland . Armed with great humor and charisma, he played in films and in the theater beyond his career, recorded records as a singer and appeared on screen as a commentator for the Olympic Games. At the European Championships in 1966 and 1971 he was each third.
In 1998 he died together with the Olympic champion in pole vault Tadeusz Ślusarski in a car accident on the way back from a sports festival.
