Dallas Long

Dallas Crutcher Long III. (Born June 13, 1940 in Pine Bluff , Arkansas , USA) is a former American shot putter .

Live and act

Dallas Long broke several records while he was still in high school. In 1958 he was American high school athlete of the year. He was recruited by the University of Southern California and set his world records here. After completing his bachelor's degree, he was no longer allowed to start for the university according to the rules of the NCAA , but stayed in Los Angeles and with his trainer Verne Wolfe and from then on started for the Southern California Striders . In 1959 he hit the ball to a distance of 19.59 m. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 he won the bronze medal, at the following Summer Games in Tokyo in 1964 , he hit the ball furthest with 20.33 m. In 1961 he was the American national champion in the shot put.

For several years he held the world record set in 1964 of 20.68 m.

Long graduated from the University of Southern California with a master's degree and, like his father (and those in charge of the Striders ), became a doctor and dentist. Before setting his records, he was hypnotized by Milton Erickson, MD .

He has had a place in the National Track and Field Hall of Fame since 1994 .
