Timothy Mack

Timothy Mack (also Tim Mack ; born September 15, 1972 in Cleveland ) is an American pole vaulter and Olympic champion .

Timothy Mack began with the pole vault as a young sports student in 1991. After some success at university championships, he increased so far by 2000 that he was allowed to start at the US trials for the Olympic Games in Sydney. In a high-class competition he was only eighth with 5.81 m and was not allowed to Sydney. Things went better in 2001 at the US Championships when he finished second and was nominated for the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, where he finished ninth. In 2002 he was US indoor champion and runner-up in the open air. At the World Athletics Championships in 2003 in Paris / Saint-Denis, he came in sixth place.

The highlight of his career came in 2004 at the Olympic Games in Athens . He had already won the US trials with 5.90 m. In Athens he was finally Olympic champion with 5.95 m. In the same season, at the World Cup final in Monte Carlo , he jumped 6.01 m, the magic limit of 6 meters.

After that, injuries made him to create, so that he has not yet been able to qualify for a major international championship.
