Wladimir Polyakov ( Russian Владимир Поляков , English transcription Vladimir Polyakov ; born April 17, 1960 ) is a former Soviet athlete .

At the European Athletics Indoor Championships, the pole vaulter won silver in Sindelfingen in 1980 and seventh in Grenoble in 1981 . On June 26, 1981, he set a world record with 5.81 m, and shortly afterwards he won silver at the Universiade in Bucharest . A silver medal at the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1982 was followed by gold at the European Indoor Championships in 1983 in Budapest. At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 he was tenth. In 1981 he was the Soviet indoor champion, in 1983 Soviet champion.
