Jean-Claude Magnan (born June 4, 1941 in Aubagne ) is a former French foil fencer . He became an Olympic and world champion.

successes

Jean-Claude Magnan became world champion with the team in Vienna in 1971 . He also achieved second place with her in Moscow in 1966 . He also won the title twice: in Gdansk in 1963 and in Paris in 1965 , he secured the title each time. Magnan took part in the Olympic Games four times . 1960 in Rome he was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the individual competition and finished fifth with the team. In the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo , he won two medals. In the individual he reached the final round, in which he won two of his battles and was defeated by Egon Franke , so that he received the silver medal. With the team he was defeated in the semi-finals of the Soviet Union , the battle for bronze against Japan was subsequently won 9: 4. 1968 Magnan was fifth in the singles in Mexico City , while he moved with the team in the final against the Soviet Union, which was won 9: 6. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , he again secured bronze with the French team.

Personal

Magnan's daughter Clothilde Magnan was also an Olympic foil fencer. His nephew Jean Galfione became Olympic champion in the pole vault in 1996 .
