Yuri Dmitrijewitsch Scharow ( Russian Юрий Дмитриевич Шаров ; born April 22, 1939 in Saratow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Soviet foil fencer .
successes
Juri Scharow was world champion in the team competition in 1963 in Gdansk , 1965 in Paris , 1966 in Moscow and 1969 in Havana and also won silver in 1967 in Montreal . He took part in the Olympic Games twice: At the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo , he and the Soviet team reached the final unbeaten, in which Poland was defeated 9: 7. Together with Mark Midler , Wiktor Schdanowitsch , Juri Sissikin and German Sweschnikow , he became Olympic champion . Four years later he again reached the undefeated battle for the gold medal with the team, in which France prevailed against the Soviet team 9: 6. In addition to Viktor Putyatin , German Sweschnikow, Juri Sissikin and Wassyl Stankowytsch , Sharov received the silver medal.
