Yuri Wassiljewitsch Rudow ( Russian Юрий Васильевич Рудов ; born January 17, 1931 in Taganrog , Russian SFSR ; † March 26, 2013 in Moscow ) was a Soviet foil fencer .
successes
Juri Rudow first won the silver medal at the world championships in the team competition in Philadelphia in 1958 , before becoming world champion in Budapest in 1959 , in Turin in 1961 and in Gdansk in 1963 . He twice took part in the Olympic Games : At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , he reached fifth place with the team, while he was eliminated in the individual in the second round. Four years later he made it unbeaten with the Soviet team in the final, in which Italy was also defeated 9: 4. Together with Mark Midler , Wiktor Schdanowitsch , Juri Sissikin and German Sweschnikow , he became Olympic champion . In the same year he was also the Soviet champion in foil singles. After the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo was not considered, he ended his active career. He then worked as a fencing trainer.
