Ulrich "Uli" Schreck (born March 11, 1962 in Tauberbischofsheim ) is a former German fencer who first worked for the Tauberbischofsheim fencing club and later for the OFC Bonn . He became German champion , world champion and Olympic champion.

Career

In 1991, Schreck became the German individual champion with the foil .

After he had won silver with the team after defeating the Italians at the 1985 World Fencing Championships and 1986 at the World Fencing Championships , the team became world champions against France in 1987 in Lausanne with Mathias Gey , Matthias Behr , Klaus Reichert , Ulrich Schreck and Thorsten Weidner . With 6th place, Schreck achieved his best world championship placement in an individual competition in 1987.

With Thomas Endres instead of Klaus Reichert, the team won silver at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, when the team from the Soviet Union lost in the final. In the individual ranking in 1988, Schreck came fourth. At the fencing world championship in 1991 in Budapest , the German team with Ulrich Schreck became vice world champion after a final defeat against the Cubans.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona Ulrich Schreck won gold with the team, together with his Bonn teammate Alexander Koch and with the Tauberbischofsheimers Udo Wagner , Ingo Weißenborn and Thorsten Weidner. For this he received the silver bay leaf on June 23, 1993 .

After finishing his career, the qualified trainer began his training at the Federal Training Center in Bonn. From 1993 to 2004 he was a DFB boarding school trainer and has been the head national trainer for Florett since 2004. Here he looks after the four-time world champion Peter Joppich and the vice European and Olympic champion of Beijing 2008 Benjamin Kleibrink . Ulrich Schreck was married to the fencers Iska Waterloh and Monika Weber .
