Jacques Lataste

Jacques Lataste (born June 7, 1922 in La Grand-Combe ; † November 10, 2011 ) was a French foil fencer who won two Olympic gold medals and two world titles.

At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , the French foil team with André Bonin , René Bougnol , Jéhan Buhan , Jacques Lataste, Christian d'Oriola and Adrien Rommel won the gold medal ahead of the Italians, while Buhan won the individual ahead of Christian d'Oriola. At the fencing world championships in 1949 the Italians returned the favor and won gold in front of the French with Lataste, in 1950 in Monte Carlo this result was repeated, in the individual competition Lataste won bronze. At the Fencing World Championships in Stockholm in 1951 , France won ahead of the Italians with René Bougnol, Jehan Buhan, Christian d'Oriola, Jacques Lataste, Claude Netter and Adrien Rommel.

The French team also won the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , together with Jehan Buhan, Claude Netter, Jacques Noël , Christian d'Oriola and Adrien Rommel, Lataste won the team competition and won his second Olympic gold medal, in the individual competition he came fourth . At the Fencing World Championships in Brussels in 1953 , Lataste won his second team gold at world championships together with Claude Bancilhon , Christian d'Oriola, Claude Netter, Jacques Noel and Adrien Rommel. In 1954 Lataste did not belong to the French team, in 1955 the team did not receive a medal, in the individual ranking Lataste won bronze again after 1950. Lataste made his last major international appearance at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. He said goodbye with a seventh place in the individual ranking and a silver medal in the team ranking.
