successes

René Bougnol was world champion with the foil team in Lisbon in 1947 and in Stockholm in 1951 , and in 1951 he also won the title with the epee team. Between 1930 and 1950 he was also runner-up nine times, including a one-off singles event in Cairo in 1949 . Bougnol took part in four Olympic Games : in 1932 he finished eighth in the singles in Los Angeles and moved into the final round with the team. There there was a playoff against Italy and the United States , in which France prevailed in each case. Together with René Bondoux , Philippe Cattiau , Édward Gardère , René Lemoine and Jean Piot , he became Olympic champion . He finished the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 with the team in silver after the French team had to admit defeat against Italy in the final this time. At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , he and the team again reached the final round, unbeaten, in which the French team also won all games and took first place ahead of Italy and Belgium . In addition to Jacques Coutrot , Jéhan Buhan , Christian d'Oriola , Jacques Lataste and Adrien Rommel , he was again Olympic champion. He finished the individual competition in fifth place. 1952 missed Bougnol in Helsinki both in the individual and with the team the entry into the final round. In contrast to his participation in 1932, 1936 and 1948, he competed with the sword.

A sports palace in his hometown of Montpellier was named after René Bougnol.
