Adrien Géry Rommel (born August 4, 1914 in Paris , † June 21, 1963 in Clichy ) was a French foil fencer who won two Olympic gold medals and three world titles.

Athletic career

Rommel fought for the Racing Club de France in Paris. When the first world championships after the Second World War were held in Lisbon in 1947 , Rommel was part of the French team and won the foil team title together with Jéhan Buhan , André Bonin , René Bougnol and Christian d'Oriola . At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , the team with André Bonin, René Bougnol, Jehan Buhan, Jacques Lataste , Christian d'Oriola and Adrien Rommel won the gold medal ahead of the Italians, in the individual Buhan won ahead of Christian d'Oriola.

In 1949 , Rommel won silver with the foil team as well as the following year at the world championship in Monte Carlo. In 1951 in Stockholm he won the foil team competition with René Bougnol, Jehan Buhan, Christian d'Oriola, Jacques Lataste and Claude Netter . The French team also won the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, together with Jehan Buhan, Jacques Lataste, Claude Netter, Jacques Noël and Christian d'Oriola, Rommel won the team classification and won his second Olympic gold medal. At the Fencing World Championships in Brussels in 1953 , Rommel won his third team gold at world championships after 1947 and 1951 together with Claude Bancilhon , Christian d'Oriola, Jacques Lataste, Claude Netter and Jacques Noel. Rommel won his last international medal at the World Fencing Championships in 1954 , when he lost to the Italians in the final together with Claude Bancilhon, René Cintrat , Roger Closset , Christian d'Oriola and Claude Netter and received the silver medal again.
