Andrea Baldini (born December 19, 1985 in Livorno ) is an Italian foil fencer and Olympic champion .

Life

Baldini is a member of the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare Italiana) and has been a member of the Italian national fencing team since 2003.

He celebrated his first international success as a junior. After a fifth place in 2003 and a sixth place in 2004, he became vice world champion in 2005 at the Junior World Championship in Linz after a final defeat against the German Benjamin Kleibrink .

He confirmed his achievements in 2005 with the gold medal in the individual and the silver medal with the team at the Universiade in Izmir and winning the bronze medal in the individual, as well as the gold medal with the team at the European Championships in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary . Finally, he won the silver medal at the World Championships in Leipzig after finishing sixth in the individual with the Italian foil team.

At the World Championships in Paris that same year , the team won silver. At the 2011 European Championships in Sheffield , he won bronze in singles and gold with the team. In 2012 he and the team again won the gold medal at the European Championships in Legnano . At his first Olympic Games in London, he was Olympic champion with the team, in the individual he reached fourth place. In 2013 he won bronze at the European Championships in Zagreb and was team world champion at the World Championships in Budapest . In 2014 he won silver with the team at the European Championships in Strasbourg and bronze at the World Cup in Kazan . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , Baldini finished fourth with the team.
