Antonio Spallino

Antonio Spallino (born April 1, 1925 in Como ; † September 27, 2017 there ) was an Italian fencer , Olympic champion and three-time world champion, then a lawyer and mayor .

successes

Spallino was team world champion with the sword in Cairo in 1949 . He then fought with the foil and received silver with the team at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki , also at the 1953 World Fencing Championships in Brussels . In 1954 and 1955 he was again team world champion. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , Spallino received gold with the team and bronze in the individual. In 1957 and 1958 he won bronze with the team at the World Championships.

In 1999 he was awarded the Olympic Order .

Life

Spallino worked as a lawyer, from 1970 to 1985 he was mayor of his hometown Como . From 1988 to 1996 he was President of Panathlon International .
