Christian d'Oriola
Christian d'Oriola (born October 3, 1928 in Perpignan , † October 29, 2007 in Nîmes ) was a French foil fencer .
Career
Christian d'Oriola was four times individual world champion and three times with the team between 1947 and 1954 , he won the gold medal in individual foil fencing at the Summer Olympics in Helsinki in 1952 and in Melbourne in 1956 ; as early as 1948 in London he had become Olympic champion with the team, which he had succeeded in 1952.
In 1947 he was voted France's Sportsman of the Year (“ Champion des champions ”) by the sports newspaper L'Équipe .
In 1958 he was team world champion for the last time . He took part in the Olympic Games again in 1960 , but dropped out early.
Christian d'Oriola was a cousin of Pierre Jonquères d'Oriola , who became Olympic champion in show jumping in 1952 and 1964 .
