René Henri Georges Bondoux (born May 26, 1905 in Bar-sur-Seine , † May 6, 2001 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French foil fencer .

Life

René Bondoux was runner-up with the team in Lausanne in 1935 and took part in two Olympic Games with her . In 1932 in Los Angeles , he moved into the finals with the team. There there was a playoff against Italy and the United States , in which France prevailed in each case. Together with René Bougnol , Philippe Cattiau , Édward Gardère , René Lemoine and Jean Piot , he became Olympic champion . He finished the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 with the team in silver after the French team had to admit defeat against Italy in the final this time.

During the Second World War, Bondoux was taken prisoner by the Germans in 1940, but was able to flee to North Africa, where he then fought for the Forces françaises libres . He commanded a tank division during the Allied invasion of southern France in August 1944 . As a member of the staff of General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny , he witnessed the signing of the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht . After the war he worked as a lawyer. In 1963 he was elected chairman of the Paris Bar Association.

In 1995, Bondoux was appointed Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor . He was also the bearer of the Croix de guerre .
