The 1985 World Indoor Athletics Games ( French Jeux mondiaux en salle 1985 ; English World Indoor Games 1985 ) were held on January 18 and 19, 1985 in the Palais Omnisports in the Bercy district of the French capital Paris .
15 years after the first official European Athletics Indoor Championships World Athletics Association organized IAAF , the World Indoor Games. After the event was accepted by athletes and associations, the World Indoor Athletics Championships were held regularly from 1987 . The 1985 World Indoor Games are now the official forerunner competition and are also included in the IAAF statistics.
A total of 322 athletes from 69 countries took part, of which athletes from 43 countries reached a final and athletes from 22 countries won medals.
Thomas Schönlebe set the only indoor world record in 45.60 seconds in the 400-meter run .

In the early hours of January 20, the Indoor World Games came to an end after the pole vault competition had lasted over five hours. Vigneron failed three times at 5.80 m, Serhij Bubka failed three times at 5.86 m. Bubka's outdoor world record was 5.91 m at this point.
With the Bubkas, a pair of brothers won medals.
