Shonel Ferguson

Shonel Ferguson (born November 6, 1957 in Nassau ) is a former Bahamian long jumper and sprinter .

In 1975 she won bronze in the long jump at the Central American and Caribbean Championships. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, she was eliminated in the first round over 100 m and in the long jump.

In 1977 she won silver in the long jump at the Central American and Caribbean Championships and was eighth in the World Cup in Athletics in Düsseldorf . In the same discipline she won the 1978 Central American and Caribbean Games, was fifth in the same year at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton and sixth at the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan.

In 1980 the boycott of the Bahamas prevented participation in the Moscow Olympic Games ; at the alternatively held Liberty Bell Classic she was third in the long jump.

In 1981 she won the long jump at the Central America and Caribbean Championships and was fifth at the World Cup in Rome . The following year she won silver in this discipline at the Central America and Caribbean Games and gold at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane . In 1983 she managed to defend her title at the Central American and Caribbean Championships. At the Pan-American Games in Caracas she was fourth over 100 m and in the long jump, at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki she failed in the long jump in qualification.

1984 was eighth in the long jump at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles , 1985 seventh at the World Indoor Athletics Games in Paris . The third title in a row at the Central American and Caribbean Championships was followed by sixth place at the World Cup in Canberra . In 1986 she won silver at the Central American and Caribbean Games, and in 1990 she was sixth at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland .

In 1984 she was US and Northern Irish champion in the long jump.
