Wassyl Bubka
Wassyl Bubka ( Ukrainian Василь Бубка , English transcription Vasyl Bubka ; born November 26, 1960 in Luhansk ) is a former Ukrainian pole vaulter .
Starting for the Soviet Union , he won bronze at the World Indoor Athletics Games in Paris in 1985 and came fourth at the European Indoor Championships in Piraeus . The following year he won silver at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart. His younger brother Serhiy Bubka won these three competitions .
In 1993 he was, now representing Ukraine, ninth at the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, he was eliminated from qualifying without a valid attempt.
In 1985 he was Soviet champion, in 1994 and 1996 Ukrainian champion.
