Roman Mrázek

Roman Mrázek (born January 21, 1962 in Sokolov ) is a former Czechoslovak goalkeeper who competed for Slovakia after 1992 .

The 1.68 m tall Roman Mrázek started for Dukla Banská Bystrica . In 1987 he was champion of Czechoslovakia in the 20 km walk .

Mrázek's international career began at the 1983 World Championships when he finished 23rd over 20 kilometers. At the indoor world games in 1985 he reached fourth place in the 5000-meter walk. In 1987 he won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships behind his compatriot Jozef Pribilinec and Ronald Weigel from the GDR. Two weeks later he finished fourth at the 1987 World Indoor Championships . In the outdoor season, he finished sixth over 20 kilometers at the 1987 World Championships . In 1988 he won silver at the European Indoor Championships in Budapest, half a second behind Jozef Pribilinec and one second ahead of the Hungarian Sándor Urbanik . At the 1988 Olympic Games he was fifth over 20 kilometers and 17th over 50 kilometers. At the beginning of 1989 he won silver at the European Indoor Championships in The Hague, four and a half seconds behind Mikhail Schchennikow from the Soviet Union. Two weeks later, Shchennikov set a new indoor world record at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest with 18: 27.10 minutes, and Mrázek also won silver here with 18: 28.90 minutes. In the open-air season, Mrázek finished fourth in the Walker World Cup over 20 kilometers , which was his best place at the World Cup. At the European Championships in 1990 Mrázek was disqualified, like four years earlier. The following year he finished 15th over 20 kilometers at the 1991 World Championships . At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he only competed over 50 kilometers and came in fifth.

From 1993 Roman Mrázek started for Slovakia. He finished 27th over 20 kilometers at the 1995 World Championships and 20th over 50 kilometers at the 1996 Olympic Games . In April 1997 he finished ninth in the World Cup over 50 kilometers in a personal best.
