Ronald Desruelles

Ronald Desruelles (born February 14, 1955 in Antwerp , † November 1, 2015 in Phuket ) was a Belgian sprinter and long jumper .

In the long jump, he was eliminated from the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976 and won silver at the European Indoor Championships in Milan in 1978 . At the European Championships in Prague , he failed in the same discipline in qualification and was eighth in the 4 x 100 meter relay with the Belgian team .

A fourth place in the long jump at the European Indoor Championships in 1979 in Vienna was followed by gold at the 1980 European Indoor Championships in Sindelfingen . Because of doping , however, the European title was revoked.

In 1982 he was seventh in the long jump at the European Indoor Championships in Milan and was eliminated in the preliminary round at the European Championships in Athens .

In 1984 he won bronze at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg over 60 meters and retired at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles over 100 meters in the run. He won further bronze medals over 60 meters in 1985 at the World Indoor Games in Paris and at the European Indoor Championships in Piraeus . In 1986 he won the European Indoor Championships in Madrid over 60 meters and reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Stuttgart over 100 meters.

In 1987 he was sixth over 200 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Liévin and fifth over 60 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Indianapolis . At the World Championships in Rome , he reached the quarter-finals over 100 meters. Two more times he competed over 60 meters at the European Indoor Championships: in 1988 in Budapest he won silver, in 1989 in The Hague he was fifth.

Seven times he was Belgian champion over 100 meters (1978, 1979, 1982, 1984-1987), once over 200 meters (1985) and ten times in the long jump (1975-1979, 1981-1984, 1986).

His brother Patrick Desruelles was successful as a pole vaulter.
