Zenon Nowosz

Zenon Stanisław Nowosz (born February 6, 1944 in Warsaw ) is a former Polish athlete who was internationally successful as a sprinter .

Nowosz was Polish champion in the 100-meter run in 1969, 1970 and 1973 and in the 200-meter run in 1970 . He also won the national championships in 1973 and 1974 over 60 meters indoors.

Internationally, it was used for the first time at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , where it took eighth place with the Polish 4 x 100 meter relay . In the 100-meter run, he was eliminated in the preliminary run. In 1969 he became European indoor champion in the 50-meter run in Belgrade . In the same year he won the bronze medal in the 200-meter run at the European Championships in Athens behind the Swiss Philippe Clerc and the East German Hermann Burde and finished fourth in the relay. At the European Indoor Championships in Vienna , he came second in the 60-meter run behind Valery Borsov from the Soviet Union. The following year he secured the silver medal at the European Championships in Helsinki with the 4 x 100 meter relay and finished fifth over 100 meters.

Nowosz was able to qualify for the finals of the 100-meter run at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and came in seventh. With the season he came in sixth place. The following year he became European indoor champion in the 60-meter run in Rotterdam. At the 1974 European Championships in Rome , he finished fifth with the 4 x 100 meter relay. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , he started in the 200-meter run, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

At the end of his career Nowosz managed to win another title. At the European Championships in Prague in 1978 he won the 4 x 100 meter relay together with Zenon Licznerski , Leszek Dunecki and Marian Voronin .
