James Dasaolu (born September 5, 1987 in the London Borough of Croydon ) is a British sprinter . In 2014 he was European champion in the 100-meter run and in 2016 with the 4 x 100-meter relay .
Life
Dasaolu started his career as a track and field athlete relatively late and took part in competitions for the first time in 2006.
In 2008 he won the British Junior Championships over 100 meters and reached the semi-finals of the British qualifying competitions for the Olympic Games.
In 2009 he improved again and ran a personal best of 10.09 s in Geneva, which he could not achieve in the following years, but was still not nominated for the British relay team at the World Championships in Berlin .
In 2010 he qualified for the European Championships in Barcelona , but was eliminated there in the semifinals. He also made it to the semi-finals at the 2012 Olympic Games , where 10.18 s were not enough to get into the final.
In 2013 he won his first international medal at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg and achieved second place with the winner Jimmy Vicaut in a personal best of 6.48 s over 60 meters . After he had increased his best performance in the course of the year from the beginning of 10.13 s to 10.08 s, 10.05 s and 10.03 s, he caused a sensation on July 13 at the British Championships in Birmingham: In the semi-finals With 9.91 s he ran the second fastest time run by a Briton, behind Linford Christie , who ran 9.87 s in 1993. At the World Championships in Moscow he reached the final over 100 meters and was eighth there with 10.21 s.
His indoor season in 2014 was just as successful as in the previous year. For example, he was able to improve his 60-meter best at a meeting in Birmingham by a hundredth of a second to 6.47 s. He had to cancel his participation in the World Indoor Championships in Sopot due to a thigh injury.
Dasaolu won his first international title on August 13, 2014 over 100 meters at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich with a time of 10.06 seconds. At the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam , he won the gold medal with the British relay.
