Frank Emmelmann (born September 15, 1961 in Schneidlingen ) is a former German athlete . In 1982 he was European champion in the 100-meter sprint.

Life

Emmelmann was the German record holder over the 200 meters (20.23 s, set in 1985 in Moscow ) for over 20 years before Tobias Unger was able to undercut this record at the German Championships in 2005. His best over 100 meters stands at 10.06 s (set in 1985 in East Berlin and German record until 2014).

He was third at the World Cup in 1981 over 100 and 200 meters and second with the GDR's 4 x 100 meter relay . At the European Championships in 1982 he won the gold medal over 100 meters, the bronze medal over 200 meters and the silver medal with the relay. In Helsinki he came fifth at the first world championships over 200 meters and fourth with the relay. At the 1985 World Cup he was third over 100 meters and second over 200 meters. In the European championships in 1986 , he won silver again with the 4 x 100 meter relay. In 1992 he ended his career.

Emmelmann belonged to the SC Magdeburg . With a height of 1.86 m, he had a competition weight of 69 to 70 kg. In the documents on state doping in the GDR that became public after the reunification , the name of Emmelmann was also found among the doped athletes.

Frank Emmelmann is married to the former 400-meter runner Kirsten Emmelmann . After the end of his career, he worked as a sales manager at the sporting goods company Puma , and later in a Magdeburg sports shop.
