Career

After the Soviet athletics championships were canceled due to the war in 1941 and 1942 , they were held again in 1943. Nikolai Karakulov won the title in both the 100-meter run and the 200-meter run . Over 100 meters he was able to win this title seven times in a row until 1949, apart from him only Valery Borsow achieved seven titles over this distance. Karakulow won over 200 meters in 1943, 1944 and from 1946 to 1949, apart from him only Robert Lyulko and Valerij Borsow won six titles over 200 meters.

At the European Athletics Championships in Oslo in 1946 , Soviet athletes took part for the first time. Karakulow was eliminated over 100 meters in the intermediate run. Over 200 meters, he won the title with a Soviet national record of 21.6 seconds. The Soviet Union did not take part in the 4 x 100 meter relay .

The Soviet Union did not send a team to the 1948 Olympic Games , so Karakulov, like Robert Lyulko before him, did not get a chance to participate in the Olympics.

In 1950 Karakulow did not win the Soviet championship for the first time. He finished fourth over 100 meters and second over 200 meters. At the European Championships in Brussels in 1950 , Karakulow retired over 100 meters like four years earlier in the semi-finals. He did not start over 200 meters. Nevertheless, he managed to win another title. As the final runner of the Soviet season, he won the title with Vladimir Sucharew , Levan Kaljajew and Levan Sanadze in 41.5 seconds, 0.3 seconds ahead of the French season.
