Olaf Prenzler becomes the GDR champion over 200 meters in 1978.

Olaf Prenzler (born August 24, 1958 in Kästorf ) is a German athlete and Olympian who - starting for the GDR - was a successful sprinter in the 1970s and 1980s . He became European champion in the 200-meter run in 1982 and won four other medals at the European Championships in 1978, 1982 and 1986.

Life

In 1977 Prenzler won the silver medal over 100 meters at the European Junior Championships . In 1978 he was over 200 meters (20.61 s) and with the 4 x 100 meter relay of the GDR Vice European Champion (38.78 s, together with Manfred Kokot , Eugen Ray and Alexander Thieme ; Prenzler as the final runner). At the Olympic Games in Moscow , he reached the semifinals.

In Athens, Prenzler was European champion in 1982 over 200 meters with a personal best of 20.46 s . He also won the silver medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay (38.71s, together with Thomas Munkelt , Detlef Kübeck and Frank Emmelmann ; Prenzler as the third runner) and reached sixth place over 100 meters. In 1985 he became vice European champion in the hall . At the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart, Prenzler finished seventh in the 200-meter run (21.00 s) and the silver medal rank with the relay (38.64 s, together with Thomas Schröder , Steffen Bringmann and Frank Emmelmann; Prenzler as third runner) .

On July 8, 1982 he was involved in a GDR record in the 4 x 100 meter run in Karl-Marx-Stadt (38.28 s, together with Thomas Schröder , Detlef Kübeck and Frank Emmelmann ; Prenzler as the third runner ).

Olaf Prenzler started for SC Magdeburg and trained with Jürgen Ludewig . During his competition time he was 1.78 m tall and weighed 76 kg. In the documents on state doping in the GDR that became public after the reunification , the name of Prenzler was also found among the doped athletes.

Olaf Prenzler first studied sports science. After reunification he became the general agent for an insurance company. He has a son (Steven, * 1978) who was also active as a sprinter.
