Alexander Thieme

Alexander Thieme (born January 13, 1954 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ; † November 29, 2016 in Jahnsdorf / Erzgeb. ) Was a German athlete who was successful as a 100-meter runner for the GDR . His greatest success was the silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montréal with the 4 x 100 meter relay of the GDR (38.66 s, together with Klaus-Dieter Kurrat , Manfred Kokot and Jörg Pfeifer ), for which he with the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze was awarded.

He won another silver medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay at the European Championships in 1978 (38.78 s, together with Manfred Kokot , Eugen Ray and Olaf Prenzler ).

At both the 1976 Olympic Games and the 1978 European Championships, he was also in the 100-meter individual race at the start, but he did not reach the finals.

Alexander Thieme belonged to the SC Karl-Marx-Stadt and trained with Peter Dost . In his playing days he was 1.86 m tall and weighed 80 kg. After his sports career , Alexander Thieme received his doctorate and habilitation at the Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt on gravitational heat pipe recuperators and became a senior scientific assistant. Later he worked as a building contractor in Jahnsdorf / Erzgeb. active.
