Manfred Kokot

Manfred Kokot (born January 3, 1948 in Templin , Brandenburg ) is a German athlete and Olympic medalist who - starting for the GDR - was successful as a 100-meter runner in the 1970s . His greatest success is the silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montréal with the 4 x 100 meter relay of the GDR (39.43 s, together with Klaus-Dieter Kurrat , Alexander Thieme and Jörg Pfeifer ), for which he with the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze was awarded.

He was the first sprinter in the GDR to run the 100 meters in 10.0 seconds (May 15, 1971; European record). On February 4, 1973, he set an indoor world record in Berlin on the 50-meter course (5.61 s), which lasted until 1996.

Manfred Kokot belonged to the SC Leipzig and trained with Wolfgang Müller . In his playing days he was 1.76 m tall and weighed 80 kg. After his sports career, Manfred Kokot became an engineer and worked at Leipzig Central Station . Later he opened a car dealership and a car electrical workshop in his birthplace Templin.
