Jochen Bender

Jochen Bender , actually Hans-Joachim Bender (born March 4, 1942 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German athlete who - starting for Germany - won the gold medal in the German 4 x 100 meters at the 1962 European Championships in Belgrade -Staffel won together with Klaus Ulonska , Peter Gamper and Manfred Germar .

Life

In 1959, Bender moved to London for three years, attended the City of London College and began playing sport because of serious health problems. He soon saw the chance to be successful as a sprinter. His main motive for the very tough training required was to travel with the national team. The Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation did not exist back then.

He was a member of Eintracht Frankfurt , was German champion in 1962 in the 4 x 100 meter relay for his club, won the British indoor championships in 1963 in London over 60 yards and in March 1963 in Berlin set a world best time over 60 meters in 6 , 5 s on. With Klaus Ulonska, Peter Gamper and Manfred Germar, Bender became European champion in the 4 x 100 meter relay in Belgrade in 1962 . He experienced his greatest defeat in the qualification of the 4 x 100 meter relay in the elimination with the GDR relay for the all-German Olympic team in 1964.

In order to finance his life independently, Bender ended his sports career very early and in 1963 worked in marketing for British Airways and later for the Brazilian airline Varig . These jobs enabled him to travel all over the world. He was particularly interested in South America. In the 1960s, Bender was a tour guide in the Himalayas and Latin America on his annual vacation. With the sale of his photos and travel reports he earned the money for the next trips.

By Josef Neckermann early 1970 came the invitation to become one of the two managing directors of the Sports Aid, which was especially in the preparation for the Olympic Games in Munich of great charm and importance for the sport. Working for the Sporthilfe gave him personal access to decision-makers in politics, business and sport. After the Olympic Games, Bender became managing director of the Maritim -Hotelgesellschaft International with the task of developing new hotels abroad.

Afterwards, Bender worked as managing director for Europe of a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank AG and an American group for the development of golf courses and hotels. Jochen Bender was also a member of the board of directors of Whitbread PLC in London.

Jochen Bender has been an independent consultant for the development of hotels, resorts, golf courses and holiday properties since 1997.

Since the beginning of 2011, Jochen Bender has been an honorary authorized representative for Frankfurt and Rhine-Main of the Förderverein Berliner Schloss e. V. , which is committed to the reconstruction of the Berlin Palace as a Humboldt Forum.

Bender is a member of the "Frankfurter Zukunftsrat e.V." He is one of the founders of the "German Chinese Automobile Club" in the AvD and the "German American Automobile Club" in the AvD, in which he also works as Vice President.
