György Csanyi
György Csányi (born March 7, 1922 in Budapest ; † December 13, 1978 there ) was a Hungarian athlete who specialized in the 100-meter run and was internationally successful, especially as a relay runner.
Csányi took fourth place at the 1948 Olympic Games in London with the Hungarian 4 x 100 meter relay . In the 100-meter run, however, he was eliminated in the preliminary round. At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , the Hungarian relay won the bronze medal behind the US and Soviet teams in the line-up László Zarándi , Géza Varasdi , György Csányi and Béla Goldoványi . This time, Csányi reached the quarter-finals over 100 meters.
At the European Athletics Championships in 1954 in Bern, he succeeded in winning the title in the 4 x 100 meter relay. The Hungarian team set a championship record in the 1952 Olympic line-up with a time of 40.6 seconds and relegated the British and Soviet relays to their places. Csányi started again with his third Olympic participation in Melbourne in 1956 with the Hungarian relay, which was eliminated in the semi-finals.
