Karl Neckermann

Karl Neckermann (born March 14, 1911 in Mannheim ; † March 7, 1984 ibid) was a German athlete who was active on the sprint courses .

In 1935 he was German champion over 200 meters. At the Olympic Games in 1936 he started on this route and retired after 21.6 s in the quarter-finals in the semifinals with a time of 21.8 s in fifth place. At the European Championships in 1938 he won the gold medal in 40.9 s with the German 4 x 100 meter relay ( Manfred Kersch , Gerd Hornberger , Karl Neckermann, Jakob Scheuring ). In 1939 Neckermann became German champion over 100 meters in 10.3 seconds with a new European record. He was also involved in two European records in the 4 x 100 meter run:

  • 40.3 s, August 13, 1938 in Berlin (Manfred Kersch, Gerd Hornberger, Karl Neckermann, Jakob Scheuring)
  • 40.1 s, July 29, 1939 in Berlin ( Erich Borchmeyer , Gerd Hornberger, Karl Neckermann, Jakob Scheuring)

Karl Neckermann belonged to the Post-SV Mannheim and the VfR Mannheim . During his competition time he was 1.77 m tall and 70 kg. After his active time he worked as a starter and referee.
