Wroclaw 1938 Berlin 1940

The 41st German Athletics Championships were held in Berlin on July 8th and 9th, 1939 . They also bore the title “Greater German Championships” - a reference to the National Socialist character of German sport, which had made a profound impact. Athletes from areas that had been annexed by the National Socialists since 1938 also took part .

In the competition program, the 4 × 1500 m relay was replaced by the 3 × 1000 m relay, which has not been held since 1932 .

Some competitions did not take place as part of this event:

Overall, the performance was at an internationally high level.

These were the last championships before the outbreak of World War II . Apart from the forest run , which had been canceled the year before, the competition program was without restrictions. However, the participation of athletes was limited because Jews were excluded due to the Nuremberg Laws of 1935.

The following overview summarizes the medalists of all competitions from 1939.
