The 39th German Athletics Championships took place on July 24th and 25th, 1937 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
There were two changes to the championship program:
- For the first time there was a championship in the so-called "German Pentathlon", which was nothing more than the first day of the decathlon , this year after the 1934 rating.
- The forest run was canceled and only offered again at the second championships after the Second World War in 1947.
Various championship competitions have been outsourced.
-
Frankfurt , July 10th and 11th:
- all relay competitions ,
- More battles (women: Pentathlon / men: five and decathlon )
- Bonn , July 25th: 50 km street walking .
After the sharp reductions in the two previous years, the women's competition program again featured the disciplines that were customary at the time.
Jewish athletes had it all the more difficult again after the relaxation of the conditions in the Olympic year 1936 and were not allowed to participate due to the Aryan Decree of 1933 and the Nuremberg Laws of 1935.
Dora Ratjen also won the high jump in 1937 , but the championship title was subsequently revoked because of her / his intersexuality .
The level of performance was favored by the National Socialists ' sponsorship of sport in order to showcase one's own strengths, and by international standards it remained high. Two new German records were set:
- 800 m - Rudolf Harbig 1: 50.9 min
- Long jump - Käthe Krauß 5.96 m
