The 45th German Athletics Championships were held on July 24th and 25th, 1943 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium . It was the last athletics championships in World War II . The conditions under which held these championships are really hard to describe: destruction and death everywhere by the bombing in the cities, the men in war go to the fronts in Europe , dead, wounded or taken prisoner , progressive genocide of the Jews by the National Socialists , ... But normality should somehow be maintained and that included sport .
While there had been almost no restrictions in the competition program at the three previous championships during the war, numerous competitions have now been canceled. For the men these were:
The 200-meter run was missing from the women's program, which was still very limited at the time .
All the remaining competitions took place in Berlin , there were no outsourced competitions.
