As in the previous year, the 31st German Athletics Championships were held in two competitions taking place at the same time, but separated by gender. The men determined their masters from July 20 to 22, 1929 in Breslau , the women on July 20 and 21 in Frankfurt am Main .
Two competitions have been outsourced:
- Forest run - Frankfurt (Oder) , April 27th
- 50 km walk (men) - Berlin , October 14th
There were a few changes in the competition program:
- The men's two-handed throwing / throwing competitions - shot put , discus and javelin throw - were canceled after five years.
- The 200-meter and 80-meter hurdles were also offered for women .
It is particularly worth mentioning that SCC Berlin won all three men's relay competitions. The most successful athlete was sprinter Lisa Gelius , who won three championship titles.
In the shot put , Grete Heublein set a new world record with 12.85 m.
In addition, three new German records were set:
- 5000 meter run - Albert Kilp 15: 00.0 min
- Pole vault - Gustav Wegner 3.99 m
- Long jump - Felicitas Schlarp 5.65 m
