Selma Grieme

Selma Grieme (born April 4, 1910 in Bremen , † September 27, 1999 in Bremen) was a German athlete .

biography

At the age of seven, Grieme became a member of the General Bremen Gymnastics Club from 1860 (ABTV) (later Sportfreunde Bremen, from 1945 called Bremen 1860 ). In 1926, at the age of 16, she won the championship title at the first Bremen forest running championships without running training. In 1927 she won several titles at the North German Championships and came second in the high jump .

Grieme was the first German champion in 1928 in the pentathlon . She was then successful in the high jump, long jump , pentathlon and 4 x 100 meter relay . In the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , she was unable to participate due to injury. At the Women's World Games in 1934, she took first place twice. In 1928 and 1930 she set world best performances in the pentathlon .

In 1934 she married the actor Alfred Heldenmaier; both moved to Dresden for work. In 1936 she was expecting her only child and therefore could not take part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin . In 1945 she returned to Bremen. At the German Championships in Bremen in 1949 in the Weser Stadium , she started for the 4 x 100 meter relay from Bremen 1860 .

With a height of 1.71 m, she had a competition weight of 67 kg. A large part of her estate is in the archive of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History .
