The 35th German Men's Athletics Championships took place on August 12 and 13, 1933 in Cologne . The women's competitions were held a week later, on August 19 and 20, 1933 in Weimar .
1933 was the year the National Socialists seized power . This event brought about such far-reaching changes in the German Reich , deep into the sport and its structures as well as for the athletes, that a few sentences are said in the short forewords to the respective German athletics championships from the years up to 1943 have to. It is primarily about the promotion of sport with very positive effects on performance on the one hand and the exclusion of certain individuals and ethnic groups - v. a. of the Jews - in the sense of an inhuman racism on the other hand.
There were a few changes in the competition program.
- New disciplines:
- 3000 meter obstacle course (men) - held again for the first time in twelve years
- 20 km walking (including a team classification ) as the second walking competition in addition to the 50 kilometers
- Team ranking for the marathon (men)
- Deleted from the offer: 800 Meters of women as the then longest Women's Running distance that in 1954 the competition program of re- DLV returned
Four competitions were outsourced:
- Forest run - Hohen Neuendorf , April 23
- 3000 meter obstacle course - Düsseldorf , July 30th
- 20 km walk - Erfurt , August 20
- 50 km walking - Duisburg , October 1st
Two new German records were set:
- Long jump : Luz Long 7.65 m
- Discus throw : Hans-Heinrich Sievert 49.32 m
