The SV Olsztyn was a German sports club from the East Prussian city of Olsztyn (now Olsztyn ). The football department played four seasons in the first-class East Prussian Gauliga .

history

After a short-lived forerunner, the Allenstein football club founded in 1907 , the East Prussian district town got a club on May 11, 1910 with the establishment of the Allenstein sports club in 1910 . In the meantime, football had only been played at the city's secondary schools: with the high school football club and the upper secondary school football club, real student clubs had been established there, both of which were incorporated into the newly founded sports club and contributed significantly to the initial success. The club, which played its home games on the barracks yard, played in the league system of the Baltic Lawn and Winter Sports Association (BRWV). In 1910/11 the club won the Allenstein / Osterode district league with a 2-0 win over Osteroder SC 1908 and thus qualified for the Baltic football finals. After victories over the Rastenburger SV and the defending champion VfB Königsberg , SV Allenstein reached the semi-finals. The victory over VfB Königsberg is remarkable in that it represents the first loss of Königsberg against a club outside the city. In the semifinals, however, Allenstein was defeated by the eventual champions SC Lituania Tilsit with 0: 4. In 1911/12 and 1912/13 Allenstein was able to move into the Baltic football finals again as district champion, but was eliminated in the semi-finals in 1912 (9-1 defeat against BuEV Danzig ) and in the quarter-finals in 1913 (5-2 defeat against SV Prussia-Samland Königsberg ). For the 1913/14 season there was a restructuring of the BRWV's league system. The clubs from Allenstein from then on played in District V Allenstein-Osterode within District I East Prussia , the winner of the District League was thus only qualified for the East Prussian football final, in which the participant in the Baltic football final was then played. The SV Olsztyn won the District League in 1914, in the East Prussian finals of the Association against stepped Prussia-Samland Königsberg only six players, was seen making the game for Konigsberg.

A dry spell followed, which was not only related to the First World War : with the later military sports club SV Hindenburg Allenstein and SV Viktoria Allenstein , local competition was found, which quickly overtook the sports club in the league now known as the Southeast Prussian District League in 1910 . The club missed the qualification in the 1926/27 season newly introduced top East Prussian league and remained in the now second-rate district league Southeast Prussia . From 1928/29 the second divisions were also restructured, SV Allenstein managed to qualify for the Staffelliga West and Staffelliga Süd (from 1929/30). Through a renewed reform of the league structure Allenstein played from 1930/31 in the second-rate district league Southeast Prussia , qualified by taking first place for the promotion games to the first-class division league South , but failed there at VfB Angerburg . Also in 1931/32 the district league was won by a victory in the play-off against VfB Osterode , in the subsequent promotion round Allenstein prevailed and thus rose again to the first class in the 1932/33 season . With only one win and one draw in the departmental league South 1932/33 , which had already been held from autumn 1931, SV Allenstein had to accept immediate relegation. In the Southeast Prussia District League , which was held for the 1933/34 season from autumn 1932 , Allenstein took first place.

When the National Socialists came to power in 1933, the football associations were dissolved and replaced by Sportgaue . By taking first place in the second-class district league, SV Allenstein qualified for the second-class district class III Allenstein within the East Prussian football district . Due to the expansion of the Gauliga East Prussia from 14 to 28 teams for the 1935/36 season , Allenstein was promoted to this top division. After the Gauliga was reduced from 28 to ten teams after the 1937/38 season , the fifth place in the table in the Allenstein district was not enough for SV Allenstein , so that the club relegated back to the second division. In the 1939/40 season , the club formed a war syndicate with SV Viktoria Allenstein and played in the first class for another year. In 1943/44 the company was promoted to first class for the last time.

After the Second World War , the formerly German Allenstein was annexed by the Soviet Union and placed under Polish administration . The SV Olsztyn , like all other German clubs and facilities, forcing dissolved.

In addition to football, the club also played fistball in the early days and even became East Prussian champions in this discipline in 1912. Athletics were also successfully practiced throughout its existence. The most famous athlete was the then world record holder in the shot put, Emil Hirschfeld , who became a member of the club in 1933 after his military service. Before that he was a member of SV Hindenburg Allenstein .
