The VfB Osterode was a German sports club of the East Prussian city of Osterode in East Prussia , now Ostróda.

history

The club was founded in 1919 and played in the league system of the Baltic Lawn and Winter Sports Association . 1921/22 the District League IV Southeast Prussia could be won, whereby Osterode qualified for the East Prussian football final. In this, the club retired, after a bye in the preliminary round, in the semi-finals by a 1: 8 defeat against SC Lituania Tilsit . Also in 1922/23 the league in the district of Southeast Prussia could be won again, in the East Prussian football final, which was held this time in the round -robin tournament, Osterode was knocked off last of season II. In the following years, the club fell back into the midfield of the district league and could not stand for the for the season 1926/27 newly introduced, top East Prussian league qualify. The District League IV Southeast Prussia was henceforth second class. The VfB Osterode also failed to qualify for the newly introduced season 1928/29, second-rate season leagues and played in 1928 in the third-class county league Southeast Prussia . This was due to further restructuring from the 1931/32 season back in second class, Osterode was level on points with SV Allenstein at the end of the season , but the playoff was lost and the promotion to the first-class division league south was missed. In the 1932/33 season , which was held from autumn 1931 due to the weather, VfB Osterode achieved victory and also prevailed in the promotion round, whereby the first class was achieved again since 1926. The league games for the 1933/34 season were still played (as early as autumn 1932) before the football associations were dissolved and replaced by Sportgaue when the National Socialists came to power .

VfB Osterode qualified for the second-rate district class III Allenstein within the football district of East Prussia by taking fifth place in the division league south of the Baltic final round planned for 1933/34 . In the 1935/36 season , the club was promoted to the first-class Gauliga due to the expansion of the league from 14 to 28 teams. In the first season Osterode reached the sixth place of seven participating teams in the Allenstein group. In 1936/37 , 4th place was achieved in the same group. In the 1937/38 season Osterode was able to improve again and reached 3rd place. Since the Gauliga was reduced from 28 to ten participants in the next year, only the two best teams in the Allenstein group qualified for this. The VfB Osterode had therefore the coming season again relegated to the second-class district class. For the Gauliga season 1941/42 the promotion succeeded. After a season in which the Osteroder only achieved one win and one draw, they were relegated to the district class again. A renewed rise did not succeed until the end of the Second World War .

After the Second World War, which belongs to the German Reich was Osterode from the Soviet Union annexed and later put under Polish administration. VfB Osterode was - like all other German clubs and institutions - forcibly dissolved.
