Athletic career

Winfried Kleine made his debut in the GDR-wide soccer game in 1955 at the age of 18 in the second-rate GDR league at SC Wissenschaft Halle . He played his first games for the Halle students in a transition round that was played from September to November 1955, in order to then switch GDR football to the calendar year rhythm. 13 games were played in the GDR league, of which Kleine played eight games. In the GDR league seasons 1956 and 1957 with a total of 52 point games, he was used by SC Wissenschaft 29 times, in 1956 he was successful with one goal. In 1958, SC Wissenschaft started with Kleine in the GDR league. In June there was a merger with SC Chemie Halle-Leuna, which then dropped the addition "Leuna".

The soccer team of SC Wissenschaft became SC Chemie II. Before the merger, Kleine had played twelve GDR league games for SC Wissenschaft, but was then taken over by SC Chemie in its league team, in which he played in all 14 league games as a left midfielder until the end of the season was used. Since the chemists then had to relegate, Kleine returned to the second class. He was involved in the immediate resurgence with 18 of 26 point games and one goal. In the new league season in 1960, small initially retained his regular position in the left midfield, but was used as a half-right striker in the last four point games. He played a total of 19 point games this season. In 1961, GDR football was switched back to summer-spring games. In addition, a season with 39 point games was played in the league from winter 1961 to spring 1962. Kleine was only used on the 7th matchday and was then called up at increasingly irregular intervals. At the end of the season he had only eleven league stakes and was not involved in the cup final on June 10, 1962, which SC Chemie Halle won 3-1 over SC Dynamo Berlin .

At the beginning of the 1962/63 season, Kleine played again for Science Halle, meanwhile again as HSG with a football team that had just been relegated to the fourth-class Halle district league . Kleinert became district champion with the HSG, but the team could not prevail in the relegation games to the GDR league. After another year in the district league, the HSG soccer team was transferred to the company sports community (BSG) Turbine Halle, which took over the HSG's place in the district league from 1964/65. Winfried Kleine ended his career as a football player at BSG Turbine.
