The 23rd German Athletics Championships took place on August 20 and 21, 1921 in Hamburg .
There were changes in the competition offer:
- New in the program were:
- 3 × 1000 m relay (men)
- 5000 m track walking (men)
- The three-way fight consisted of three completely different disciplines compared to the previous year: high jump / 400 m (day 1) - shot put (day 2).
- The 3000 m obstacle course was canceled up to and including 1932 after the competition was again part of the championship in 1919 and 1920.
As in the previous year, there were not only competitions for men, but also for women - still with only four disciplines. Marie Kießling , who won all four championship titles in the previous year, became three-time German champion with victories over 100 m , the long jump and the 4 × 100 m relay . Only the title in the shot put escaped her that year.
Three competitions have been outsourced:
- Forest run (men) - Munich , March 28th
- 50 km walk - Munich , September 7th
- Decathlon - Cologne , 17./18. September
In addition, a marathon was held again over the classic 42.195 km , which took place on July 17th in Berlin , although it was not officially part of the championship competitions until 1924, but was carried out independently as the "German Marathon".
