The 44th German Athletics Championships were held on July 25th and 26th, 1942 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium . The marathon , which was shortened to 30 km, and the street-walking competition, which was shortened from 50 km to 25 km , also took place in Berlin on August 30th.
The Second World War , which had now lasted for almost three years , had an ever increasing impact on life and, of course, the circumstances of such sporting events. The Russian campaign was in full swing and had not gone as far as the National Socialists had imagined. The Allies' area bombing had begun. So Germany came under more and more pressure.
But the sport continued and despite the war there were few restrictions in the competition program. Only the triple jump , the track walking and the forest run were not on offer, the marathon run - on a distance of 30 km - and walking on the road - on a distance of 25 km - were shortened in distance. It is unclear how the athletes managed to take part in view of the war-related circumstances and how many or which athletes were unable to participate due to the war.
The following overview summarizes the medal winners of all competitions.
