The 16th German Athletics Championships were held in Breslau on August 17, 1913 . Exceptions were the decathlon - September 7th in Braunschweig - and the first forest run . This took place on October 5th in Berlin and was the first championship competition in which there was also a team evaluation, albeit with a different evaluation than in the following championships. The train walk over 3000 meters took place for the last time. In 1921 and 1922 the competition was held again with a distance of 5000 meters and from 1938 it took place with the distance of 10,000 meters that is still common today.
There was also another marathon run - October 26th in Berlin over 40.2 km, which, however, was not officially part of the championship competitions until 1924, but was carried out independently as a "German Marathon".
Karl Halt set a new German record in the decathlon . According to the evaluation at that time, he scored 612 points, converted according to the current table from 1985, this corresponded to 5714 points.
