The 13th German Athletics Championships took place on August 28, 1910, as in the previous year in Frankfurt am Main . Exceptions were the 100 km street walking - October 16 in Nuremberg - and after a one year break the marathon again - June 13 in Frankfurt am Main, this time over the original distance of 42.195 km. However, the marathon was not officially part of the championship competitions until 1924, but was carried out independently as the "German Marathon".

After seven years, the 200-meter run was reinstated in the competition program. New additions were the 800 m run , won by the American James Lightbody in the jersey of the Berliner SC , the 3000 meter obstacle course , the track and the first long distance run over a German mile (7500 m). This distance was replaced in 1919 by the internationally more common 10,000-meter route. Thus, the number of disciplines has almost doubled within two years.

For the first time there were several athletes who were able to defend the championship title they had won the previous year. This had almost never been the case in the previous championships.
