The 48th German Athletics Championships were held on August 14th and 15th, 1948 in the municipal stadium in Nuremberg . The division of Germany had already progressed so far that it was only about the championships of the three western occupation zones . The Soviet occupation zone had its own championship competition. With a few exceptions, all competitions were held in Nuremberg as part of the event. In contrast to the men's decathlon, the women's 200-meter run, as in 1946 and 1947, was not on the program again. As before , the marathon was shortened this year to a distance of 30 km.

The following championship competitions took place at different locations on different dates:

  • It started with the forest run (men), which took place in Fellbach near Stuttgart on April 18th on a route length with individual and team evaluation.
  • In September, the remaining disciplines were held at an event in Hamburg :

The following overviews summarize the medal winners. A more detailed overview with the first six in each of the individual disciplines can be found under the link German Athletics Championships 1948 / Results .
